What if...

Hey guys,

Along this season, we have made a massive comeback from a less than mediocre start to a rather nice run of form. Now, we sit in 7th, the possibility of Champions league football os slowly but surely disappearing from sight. Despite this, we must battle on and fight for a top four finish. One of the ways we can do this is to continue to rely on Batman's sidekick, Robin Van Persie.

I truly believe we have a great chance to win the league of the champions this year, but to do this we must score goals and to do this, we need Robin. Top scorer in the Premier league and for the Club this season, he has just reached a landmark 100 goals for the gunners and, despite a lack of goals recently, shows no signs of losing his form. But, with great skill comes great interest from others. Fabregas may have been born at Barca but grew up at Arsenal, developing his superb skill and vision at the club before leaving during the summer. Nasri too, developed his silky skills at the club but he too left. There are countless others: Kolo Toure, Clichy, Anelka, Flamini, among many others. Basically, in all honesty, we are a feeder club, we create good players young then they leave for trophies, money, glory... Now, it is Robin Van Persie's turn. Over the years, he has played alongside the likes of the non-flying dutchman, Dennis Bergkamp, the legend, the king Thierry Henry and even was part of the invincibles. Over his many years of loyal service, he has learnt much from everybody around him and thus has become one of the best players in the world today. This also makes him one of the most desirable players in the world today.

If he does leave, which is a very real possibility, I see three realistic possibilities. The first is a very good one: before, Robin van Persie wasn't all that special yet Arsenal still managed to get away with good league positions and victories in Europe and across the land. So, the first possibility is that life will go on  as we knew it with Chamakh, if he finds some sort of good form, up front along with Walcott, hopefully he will have matured, and Yao Kouassi (Gervinho) and the fit and healthy Jack Wilshire. This is entirely possible and if He leaves, I sure hope it turns out like this.

The second possibility is that Robin leaves for a massive transfer fee and for once, Arsene would buy a prolific, big-name player like Benzema, Pato or even the legendary Emile Heskey. What a signing that would be! Anyways you get the point, Robin=money=really good replacement=goals=trophies.

The thrid possibility is by far and away the worst: Robin leaves and we slowly drop down the table. European football becomes a thing of the past, all our young starlets leave for a bigger club and we end up relegated. OK, maybe not that far, but that could be possible, in a nutshell, we wouldn't win anymore. No RVP=No GOALS.

So then, that could very well happen if Robin left, but he could also just stay at the club, which would be one of the smartest decisions for AW. Hopefully he won't leave, but clubs life Barcelona, Real Madrid or any other club with money are all equally attractive, so he could go anywhere or nowhere.

Thanks for reading,
Lucien
