Introduction: Matthew
Hello everyone,
My name is Matthew, I was born and raised in New York City and I've been a gooner since the 2008-09 season. Why do I support Arsenal? Over the last 15 years, Arsene Wenger's men have become different than any other club in the world. We played like Barcelona before Barcelona played like Barcelona (good luck following that), revolutionizing the passing game and perfecting fluid, attacking football.
So by passing their way through, over, and around defenders, Arsenal have won 4 FA Cups and 3 Premier League trophies, including a record breaking undefeated run of 49 matches. But, as we all know, the "Invincible" days are over. Patrick Vieira has joined the Arsenal colony at Manchester City, Dennis Bergkamp decided to coach little Dutch children, and Thierry Henry is, well still brilliant.
So yes, the Invincibles era is over and Arsenal now find themselves with a squad containing plenty of quality—but just as many problems. Do I even really need to begin to name them? What was once a team brimming with attacking talent is now one that depends on just one man to score—I'll give you a hint, it starts with R and ends with obin Van Persie.
But instead of going on a rant about how shaky Arsenal's defense is and about how bad Arshavin is, I'll instead go on about me and what this website is about. My favourite Arsenal player has got to be Theo Walcott/Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain/Alex Song/Jack Wilshere/Robin Van Persie/Wojciech Szczesny. In all seriousness though my favourite Gunner is probably Theo Walcott. I don't exactly idolize him as a player, unless I'm looking to become a lad who can beat any offsides trap in the world but somehow can't finish for his life, but Theo has a unique story and seems like a regular fan who just happens to make 100,000 pounds a week and play at the Emirates every weekend.
My favourite Arsenal moment? Hands down the 2-1 win against Barcelona at the Emirates. That result showed that at our best, Arsenal can beat any team in the world. Sure, we lost the second leg 3-1 and became the first team in Champions League history to not get a single shot on goal in a match, but what mattered was that we beat the best team in the world, fair and square.
That's all for my little mini-bio. I hope you enjoy reading a site dedicated purely to "by far the greatest club," written by three Arsenal supporters who have Victoria Condordia Crescit in their blood.
Cheers,
Matthew
