Arsenal 7-1 Blackburn Match Review

Wowaweewow. I honestly don't know where to start, but it's an understatement to say that that was exactly what we needed. It was more than we needed—I would have been happy with 2-1, 3-1 would have been ideal, and 4-1 would have amazing. But 7-1?! Brilliant, absolutely bloody brilliant.

In my match preview, I said that even though one of those golden but rare all around solid team performances would have been great, a win was really what we needed, in any way, shape, or form. Well, not only did we get the three points but we got even more than the ideal golden performance—a performance that highlighted the strengths of both present Arsenal and future Arsenal.

For present Arsenal, we saw Robin Van Persie further cement himself as the best centre forward in the world, as he showed that when he's given just a few feet of space he can put the ball in the back of the net, making it look as easy as cracking a Torres joke. For future Arsenal, we saw some of the best young talent the club has to offer on display. Francis Coquelin slotted in at right back with ease, and although he was fairly untroubled he dealt with anything that came his way and contributed to a number of the goals.

But as impressive as he was, we all know who the real star of the show was. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, AOC, or the Ox—whatever you call him, the kid was absolutely incredible. His two goals were ones that showed impressive decision making and cool-headedness for a player of his age—it's scary to think how good he'll be in his prime, let alone in a few years. 2012 will be the year of the Ox, I know it.

So it's a perfect day to be a gooner. What would make a perfect weekend is that Scums and Liverpool draw, Chelsea loses to Manchester United, Harry Redknapp goes to jail for tax evasion and Gareth Bale is banned from football due to FIFA animal control laws (come on, he does look like a monkey).

Jokes aside, it was a near-perfect performance and I just hope we can grab a win away at Sunderland next weekend before traveling to the San Siro to face Milan.

Now, for the man of the match...

Matthew's (my) Man of the Match: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Henri's Man of the Match: Robin Van Persie
Lucien's Man of the Match: Johan Djourou

Let's cross our fingers for good results elsewhere in England, and I hope you enjoyed reading,

Matthew
